What is my background?

I’ve been the Head of Knowledge Management at The Morton Arboretum since 2017. In that role, I’ve developed and implemented technology systems; designed processes, policies, and workflows; and created strategies to build organizational capacity in three main areas: online learning, digital asset management, and internal communication.

  • Online learning: Worked with internal stakeholders to understand organizational needs and develop learning experiences.
  • Digital asset management: Implemented digital asset management system, created community of practice for image and data management, led efforts to increase access to online collections.
  • Internal communication: Designed and built WordPress-based intranet site to improve staff knowledge sharing and engagement.

And before the Arboretum, unbeknownst to me, I was also doing knowledge management—although at the time, I wasn’t calling it that! I worked for 11 years at the Art Institute of Chicago as a liaison between technology and curatorial staff, helping shape the museum’s bespoke collection management system, create workflows and training for collections management, and design tools for engaging the public with the art collections.

My academic and professional development credentials include certificates in data analysis and visualization as well as organizational design, a master’s degree in architectural history, criticism, and theory, and a dual bachelor’s degree in journalism and applied sociology.

Working with a professional association to develop an online learning curriculum and strategy for engaging new members online;

Working with a science museum to develop a data management protocol;

Running workshops to teach non-profit staff the principles and techniques of design thinking.
