How can we work together?

I specialize in helping nonprofit organizations build capacity—whether that means adopting a new technology, designing new processes for collaboration, understanding how to make data-informed decisions, or creating a strategic plan. Explore the themes below to learn more about how we can work together to fulfill your mission.

Digital Transformation

You have a sneaking suspicion—or maybe even some solid evidence—that your organization could be using digital tools to reach different audiences, improve efficiency, and create innovation. But deploying new technology can be daunting and costly… if you’re not asking the right questions.

Whether it’s developing an organization-wide strategy or conducting an audit of a specific program area, we’ll work together to determine the scope, set objectives, and come up with a step-by-step plan to transform the way you work.

My past work in this area includes:

  • Transforming a series of in-person, regional workshops into engaging online learning experiences;
  • Using course enrollment and audience data to evolve and expand an established education program;
  • Developing curricula for online learning programs;
  • Deploying an organization-wide digital literacy curriculum;
  • Developing new workflows for image management;
  • Creating dashboards and communication tools for reporting on strategic plan progress; and
  • Evaluating and selecting specific technologies like Learning Management Systems, Content Management Systems, and project management tools.

Technology is almost never the entire solution—people, processes, and culture all play a big role. That’s why I take a hands-on, iterative, and empathetic approach to creating lasting change within organizations. Are you ready to be transformed?

Design Thinking

Design thinking is an iterative, user-centric approach to problem-solving. It starts with a thorough examination of your stakeholders’ needs, clearly defines the problem space, and creates a way to quickly test and improve solutions. While it’s not a silver bullet, elements of design thinking can be used in scenarios as diverse as exhibition planning and employee engagement, resulting in solutions that are more collaborative, more relevant, and more sustainable.

The best way to learn design thinking principles is through hands-on application. Through a half- or full-day engagement, I will coach your team through the process and leave you with all of the tools to apply design thinking on “wicked problems” throughout your organization.

This hands-on workshop for up to 12 participants is a great starting point for organizations who want to become familiar with the principles and techniques of design thinking. No prior knowledge is required!

Includes: Pre-conference call to discuss goals and logistics; design thinking workbook; and 4.5 hours of activities.

Cost: $1,800 plus travel expenses. Fully virtual options also available.

This focused, day-long experience for up to 8 participants is intended to help teams explore a design thinking challenge in a deeper way. As with the half-day workshop, participants will become familiar with the principles and techniques of design thinking, with the added benefit of working through a real-world challenge throughout the session. Afterwards, your team will have a strong starting point for further work and the ability to apply design thinking on their own. While some familiarity with design thinking is helpful, it is definitely not required.

Includes: Two pre-experience calls to outline scope and outcomes; design thinking workbook; 7.5 hours of activities; full documentation and summary of the day’s learnings.

Cost: $3,200 plus travel expenses. Fully virtual options also available.

This flexible consultancy engagement will help establish design thinking at your organization and guide your team toward success. After discussing the overall scope and desired outcomes for the project, I will work collaboratively with your team to facilitate and embed design thinking over the course of several weeks.

Includes: Conversations with project leader(s), facilitation of a project using design thinking principles, documentation of the process, design thinking workbook.

Cost: Variable, based on scope.

Knowledge Management Strategy

Knowledge Management (KM) is just a fancy way of saying, “connecting people to the information they need.” Sometimes those connections involve technology, sometimes they involve new processes, and sometimes (gasp!) they simply involve getting the right people in a room together. Most mission-driven organizations have a real need to communicate and collaborate efficiently, but end up in a position where institutional silos are getting in their way. Creating a knowledge management strategy can help break down those silos—sometimes it’s just a matter of knowing where to start.

We can work together to identify where more connections need to be built, develop key metrics, and ensure that you have the resources—people, technology, skills, roles, workflow—to follow through. As in my other consulting work, we’ll take a user-centric, holistic approach that addresses culture and change management alongside the more practical and tactical aspects of KM.
